Ecclesiastical furniture for Temple Methodist Chapel
William Garvey Ltd was commissioned by Mark Richmond Architects to make new furniture for Temple Methodist Church, near Taunton, Somerset. One of the largest venues in Taunton, it has a seating capacity of 600 and the newly completed interior now allows the building to be used for a broader variety of community events.
The brief given to William Garvey was to make ornate yet functional furnishings including a lectern and alter table, organ screen and candlesticks. This unusual project was particularly challenging as the architects designs were contemporary but needed to work well and look appropriate within the ancient church. The organ screen in particular was technically detailed and required an element of problem solving and trailing.
