Generations of garden furniture manufacturers have relied on teak for its resistance to rain and humidity.  So William Garvey was only taking the next logical step, inside to the bathroom, when he started building custom sinks from the hardwood, harvested in Myanmar in an environmentally sustainable fashion.

Moving on to shower stalls, he combined a PVC core with teak veneered panels and solid teak trim with recesses for soap and other scrubbing essentials.

After seven years of custom bathroom work, William Garvey has introduced two lines of tubs and sinks made from solid teak and teak veneered marine grade plywood.  The Japanese style Geo deep single bath, with optional seat is indeed deep, 29½ inches to be precise.  With the Geo standard single bath, the depth shrinks to 21 inches, while the length stretches out to a Western standard 65 inches.

The boxy Geo basin can be mounted on a wall or a counter. Another sink, the Helio basin, is roughly the size and shape of a wooden salad bowl.  Quadruple that and you've got the freestanding Helio bath, 67 inches in diameter.

William Garvey Ltd has been producing unique baths, basins and bathroom furniture for more than 30 years and is especially recognised for his stunning wooden baths and sinks. As natural materials are making a major come back in the home, Bill Garvey’s long standing obsession with teak is proving to be a hit with those who hold a passion for sleek, minimal styles. Based in the heart of rural Devon, William Garvey’s designs are popular worldwide, undeniably modern in appearance and instantly recognisable.

“I am naturally inspired by contemporary design, and over the years I’ve noticed that my furniture has become more and more simple, with the emphasis on minimalism with warmth. I think this has a lot to do with the renewed appeal of a less cluttered lifestyle – I wanted to make uncomplicated furniture in these complicated times,” explains Garvey.

Although most of his designs are bespoke and tailored to individual requirements two distinct styles of bath have been developed by William Garvey and personify his pared down simplistic aesthetic. Based on traditional Japanese methods of bathing the Geo bath boasts an extra deep tub which is filled with very hot water, in which you can sit submerged for utter relaxation.

The Geo makes a striking design statement and has even been commissioned by some of world’s most luxurious spas such as the Buddha Bath Spa at St Evian. Incredibly strong the insulating properties of teak means that the water will stay warm for hours and, with the addition of a specially constructed lid, can be kept warm for the best part of a day.
Another striking William Garvey design is the Helio – the direct opposite of Geo which features curves in abundance, while still retaining a pared-down, simplistic profile. The impressively capacious Helio bath can comfortably accommodate two for a romantic soak and this circular bath will certainly add a wow-factor to your bathroom. So, If you are looking for a bath which looks great and gives a natural warmth to the room why not consider a one-off from one of the region’s hottest designers.
