Six-storey historic townhouse

Contemporary bespoke furniture and joinery throughout a large family home in west London
Bespoke furniture for family home – West London

Collaborative approach

This project in Pembridge Square exemplifies our collaborative way of working. We were tasked with helping the architect and interior designer Brian Ma Siy achieve his vision while balancing the conservation and repair of a historic building with the installation of contemporary bespoke furniture and joinery.

Walnut was chosen as the primary timber throughout the six-storey house. We designed and made furniture for every space, including bedrooms, bathrooms, the family room, children’s playroom, kitchen, study, media room, cloakroom and formal reception room.

Scale and proportion

Many of the rooms are large, and the furniture reflects this scale. Some wardrobes had oversized doors that pushed running gear to its limits. Shelving spanned unusually wide lengths, supported by discreet layers of steel within the lamination to ensure strength and stability. As with all our work, every piece was fully assembled and tested in the workshop before delivery to site.

We refined many of the original designs during production, making small but significant improvements. For example, we created a mechanism to ensure the lights in the adjustable shelving worked perfectly at any position. The project also required careful integration of lighting, cabling and other services into the furniture, demanding both precision and discretion in the finished pieces.

Memorable details

Several elements became favourites across the team. The kitchen banquette combined practicality and clean design in equal measure, while the elegant washstands balanced functionality with understated beauty.

The result is a house where period character and modern functionality meet, with furniture that sits quietly and confidently within the architecture while meeting the highest technical standards.

“It has been such a great pleasure working with you and your magnificent team on this project. For me, our collaboration has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of the building process and the whole has been a wonderful learning experience. I must emphasise that your care and attention to detail have been totally consistent from start to finish.” Brian Ma Siy, Architect and Interior Designer
